Featuring, for the first time, speaking pages: audible poems via your smartphone!
Extract from Editorial:
"Talking to a young person well-versed (no pun intended) in the latest modern technology and electronic gadgetry, I was told about these ‘square bar codes’. It didn’t make too much sense until they were demonstrated to me: a quick pass of a smart phone over the ‘bar-code’, the pressing of a couple of keys and the miracle happened. What I had only been looking at as print was suddenly audible. ‘Could you do that with poems in the magazine?’ I asked ‘Of course,’ came the reply, ‘just supply me with a digital recording of the poets reading their poems and I’ll make you some QR codes, audible bar codes as you call them.’ Not wanting to experiment on unsuspecting contributors I asked three poet friends if they were willing to participate in the experience and we developed ‘Voices off the Page’. Three poems you can enjoy on the page and then you can run the scanner of your smart phone (or, as in my case, my grandson’s Blackberry) over the codes, and listen to the poets read. And not just the poem, but a short introduction as well. If you do manage to listen, please let me know whether you enjoy the experience of listening to a poem from Acumen."
