About Arc Publications
Arc Publications was founded in 1969 by Tony Ward, who remains its Managing Editor. Over thirty years later, operating from a converted textile mill on the Yorkshire-Lancashire border in the North of England, the press still adheres to its founding principles of introducing the best of new talent to a UK readership, including voices from overseas that would otherwise remain unheard in this country.
Now publishing upward of 20 titles a year, Arc’s list is a mix of new and established writers from the UK and abroad, with special emphasis on the work of Commonwealth poets writing in English, and the work of overseas poets in translation. With the input of a distinguished editorial team, Arc works hard to ensure that its publishing policy, and its publications, remain exciting and vibrant, offering the very best in contemporary poetry.
Recent developments have seen the launch of the now highly-acclaimed Visible Poets translation series in 2000, a series of new translations of the work of overseas poets. These titles, highly-regarded in their native countries but largely unknown to an English-language readership, have been produced as parallel texts, with prefaces by the translators and introductions by eminent scholars. There is also a series of books about music and musicians. Since its inception in 1999, this series – published under the imprint of Arc Music – has expanded rapidly and has already made a significant contribution to the music publishing scene.
