Banipal showcases contemporary Arab authors in English translation, from wherever they are writing and publishing. An independent and innovative magazine, Banipal's three issues a year since Spring 1998, are now in a handy paperback book format, with more pages, and present both established and emerging authors through poems, short stories or excerpts from novels.

Each issue now has a main theme and includes from time to time the regular features on LITERARY INFLUENCES of major authors, a TRAVELLING TALE, and INTERVIEW, plus also book reviews and photo-reports of literary events. Each issue is well illustrated with author photographs and the full colour covers often feature works by prominent Arab artists.
