And Other Stories

  • You Bleeding Childhood 9781913505684 has had some great coverage:
    • New Yorker, Serialisation and interview,  (US)
    • American Short Fiction, Serialisation (US)
    • Sheffield Telegraph, Serialisation (UK)
    • Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review (US): ‘Short stories from an Italian maestro finally translated into English [...] Amusing, disturbing, intoxicating tales of childhood terrors and obsessions.’
    • Publisher’s Weekly, Starred Review (US): Mari makes his English-language debut with a dazzling and sometimes surreal collection of reminiscences on childhood obsessions. [...] Mari delivers trenchant satires of nostalgia with deadpan grace and wit, resulting in stories that are as heartfelt as they are humorous, with great care given to descriptions of the characters’ foibles and idiosyncrasies. This is not to be missed.’
    • The Irish Times, review: 'The translation by Brian Robert Moore is a gem ... A delightful collection that pops with idiosyncrasy.'
    • The Spectator, review: ‘Mari inhabits Borges’s labyrinthine territory. His prose style shares the gleaming formality of Nabokov, but he’s his own man, nonchalantly mixing high and low culture: the literary canon and classic comic books, Dante and pulp. The book gains something in translation: an afterword by Brian Robert Moore, who provides the English version, gives us a lucid, elegant tour of the author’s mind and oeuvre… We all have our obsessions, private fetishes and secrets. Mari throws open the doors to his, to reveal a dazzling cabinet of curiosities.’
    • The Guardian, review: ‘There’s a Calvino-esque blend of the playful and the rigorous to this collection...[a] uniquely refreshing book.. idiosyncratic, amusing and moving.’
    • The Skinny, review 'A love letter to a childhood told through literature’
  • Ten Planets 9781913505608 has been featured in the latest issue of The London Book Review.

Les Fugitives

  • 91/92: Notes on a Parisian Commute 9781838014186 was featured in the Foyles Newsletter!

Scotland Street Press

  • A great review for Don Roberto 9781910895764 on Bella Caledonia.
  • A Song to Keep 9781910895535 also received a great review from Kirk Centre.

Fly on the Wall

  • A great Waterstones review from the Douglas branch for The Finery 9781915789037.
    • “Never pick a fight with an old lady.”
    • I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of this. The story is, despite the dark undertones and strong authoritarian themes, an entertaining read. It strikes a fine balance between keeping elements of comedy, character development and tragedies to produce an engaging highly readable narrative. Those looking for a dystopian tale that won’t leave you depressed at the end, look no further! If delves deep enough to establish the world, the stakes, and the motivations without languishing in too deep detail to keep the pace even. I would highly recommend it.
