Flotsam is a first book of poems by a young writer already finding her voice. It is an exploration of Frances Williams’ world through word and visual image, illustrated by her paintings, drawings and collages.

Like those paintings her poetry is vigorous, exuberant almost, yet controlled and thoughtful. Through her rich and visual imagery Frances Williams questions the contemporary world and the individual’s response to it.

Frances Williams was born in Bridgend in 1968, She received a BA in Fine Art from Liverpool University and MA in Sculpture from Chelsea College, London. Her poetry has appeared in various magazines including Ambit, Planet, Poetry Ireland Review and Poetry Wales (for whom she was a regular columnist). Flotsam, her first book, was published when Frances was nineteen. Her reviews and articles have appeared in The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday and Time Out. She currently works as a freelance writer and editor in London.
