Gillian Darley

Gillian Darley writes, lectures and broadcasts widely on architecture and landscape. She has written biographies of Octavia Hill, John Soane and John Evelyn (both of the latter short-listed for the James Tait Black Memorial Prize). She was architectural correspondent of the Observer in the mid 1990s and was Director of the Landscape Foundation.

She is a Trustee and former Chairman of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and since 2008 represents SPAB on the Council of the National Trust. Her most recent book is a revised edition of Villages of Vision (Five Leaves Publications) and among her recent writings is an essay in the forthcoming Perspecta 41, the magazine edited by Yale University architectural students.

She is a regular contributor to publications including the TLS, the London Review of Books, Apollo Magazine and the Architects' Journal.
