Margitt Lehbert

Margitt Lehbert was born in Geneva in 1957 of German parentage. She grew up there and in Washington DC, Mexico City and Bonn. In 1976 she was at the German School, Washington, DC and then studied at the University of Constance, majoring in German philosophy.

1980 began with comparative literature at the University of Iowa and her studies concluded in 1986 with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts

In 1988 her family moved to Berlin, where she worked as a freelance translator and, inter alia, at the Free University.

Currently, she lives with her family on a farm in southern Sweden, and works as a publisher. Among other things, she has published German translations of Les Murray, Elizabeth Bishop, Paul Muldoon (with Hans-Christian Oeser), Carol-Ann Duffy and Don Coles, Sarah Kirsch and Georg Trakl.
