Synopsis

Other Voices by Andrew Humphrey

Andrew Humphrey received an award this week for Other Voices in the East Anglian book of the year competition held at Jarrolds in Norwich.

Andrew Humphrey follows up his acclaimed first collection, Open The Box, with another twelve stories of loss and abandonment, fear and greed. Other Voices slides through the genres of urban horror, science fiction, crime and slipstream.

Humphrey examines the effects of the fantastic upon the personal, whether through future dystopias, a missing child, climatic change, or repeated infidelity. His characters live in edgy realities and shifting fantasies, their existence tied to the inevitability of fate: something they struggle against as much as they embrace.

Humphrey is a Norwich-based writer and sets most of his stories in the Norfolk area.

“Humphrey is a fascinating writer, brilliant at the quick sketching in of psychologically complex characters and able to handle entirely convincing realism and almost poetic passages of melancholy.”
— Adrian Fry, Midnight Street
