Kate Bass’s writing is approachable at a first reading, and always recognisable from experience. She writes truthfully, with wit and open-eyed tenderness, about the joys and trials of rearing small children. Life has changed. She has turned into the woman with the sheep’s head. As she says in the title poem: ‘Are you sure you want to remember/ what it was like before?’
She was shortlisted for the Arts Council/Radio 4 ‘First Verse’ award in 2002.
Kate Bass’s first pamphlet, The Onion House (published by Many Press, 1996), received critical acclaim.

The Pasta Maker is her first full length collection.

Kate Bass lives with her family in Cambridge, where she works as an illustrator. A short dance based on The Onion House was performed by Jia-yu Chang at Platform East in Ipswich in Oct 2002 and again in London in January 2003.
