Alcemi is our featured publisher this week

Alcemi is our featured publisher this weekAlcemi is an imprint of Y Lolfa, best known on home ground for its Welsh-language fiction list. Editor Gwen Davies’ background is as fiction editor for fellow Inpress member Parthian, with whom she shares an independent spirit, ambition and commitment to nurturing new writers.

Alcemi's authors are drawn from the writers of Wales. A small proportion of the list is allocated to adaptations from Welsh-language novels. The emphasis is on discovering and developing new talent. Alcemi aims to offer its authors wide opportunities aside from direct publication (eg advice on author bursaries, international festival participation, the chance to teach) and the imprint provides a supportive artistic team.

The featured title is Liminal. Relationships – father and youthful son; son and elderly mother; fiancés, lovers; colleagues - none are immutable. This novel shows those thresholds of choice, those liminal moments and places where a door may open onto another world, or at the very least, another way of relating to the one we have.

“Evocative... Chris Keil’s writing, which is limpid and often arrestingly vivid, has a charged quality that conveys the mysteries pulsing behind the everyday surfaces of things.” - the Guardian
