Plain yet intimate in tone, the poems work with the wit and concision of epigram. Daniel Weissbort (b. 1935) is poet, translator and editor of the influential 'Modern Poetry in Translation’. His most recent collection of poems was 'Nietzsche’s Attaché Case’ (1993); he has translated several modern Russian poets. He edited for Anvil the controversial anthology of post-war poets of Central and Eastern Europe, 'The Poetry of Survival’ (1991).
