Elspeth Smith was born in Ceylon in 1928 to British parents. She was sent to school in Edinburgh and then to St. Leonards-on-Sea. Trained as a health visitor, she has lived and worked in Huddersfield for forty years. In this time she has developed a unique style of writing and observation. It’s no coincidence that her favourite author is Barbara Pym.
